Co-founding and building an organic farm from the ground up: production infrastructure, nursery and microgreens systems, market channels, people and day-to-day operations.
Project frame
The site began as bare agricultural land. Turning it into a functioning enterprise required physical infrastructure, crop and nursery systems, routes to market, administration and a team capable of operating the farm.
Co-founder and director responsible for developing the farm, its operating systems and its routes to market.
Organic field production, tunnels, a seedling nursery, microgreens and a pack house.
Restaurants, Shoprite, Food Lover's Market and catering companies.
Work in practice
Developed the farm from bare land into a working 80-hectare agricultural enterprise.
Established tunnels, a seedling nursery, microgreens production and pack-house capacity.
Built operational systems spanning production, harvest, packing, administration and customer orders.
Created multiple routes to market across retail, hospitality and catering customers.
Used the farm as a practical training environment for plant production, soil work, machinery, livestock, administration and marketing.
From land to enterprise
Mighty Greens joined field crops, protected production, propagation, harvesting, packing, people and customers. Rory’s remit reached across that whole operating chain: developing the physical farm while building the routines and team needed to keep produce moving through it.

Field crops, tunnels, nursery and microgreens.
Crop planning, harvest routines and pack-house flow.
Workplace training, supervision and day-to-day systems.
Retail, restaurant and catering routes to market.
Tools matched to the task
Permanent raised beds kept growing ground separate from paths and wheel traffic. Rory matched the tool to the scale of the job, moving from hand work to a BCS walk-behind tractor, compact tractors and full-size field machinery.
Broadforks and hand tools worked the soil at the most direct scale.
The BCS walk-behind tractor added a compact powered option.
Smaller tractors provided the next step in the farm’s equipment range.
Large tractors completed the range for work at field scale.

Permanent bedsDefined growing ground concentrated compost, irrigation and careful cultivation where crops needed them, while paths carried people and machinery.
